Kollywood Music - The Year that was

Before I get into the blog, true to my disclaimer,
1) This wasn't my original idea :D.
2) I'm staying true to my regional instincts in this post.

I intend to list down the top songs or you may also call them my favorite playlist of 2007 released films. I hope these songs figure in their deserved positions in various TV channels' new year special programmes. There is just one major difference. Usual countdowns like those in Sun TV would limit themselves to movies till October. But I've decided to list till date :) also in order from 12,11 till 1. Wow!!!Look what we have got. A Marauder's 12 just like Ocean's 12 :P

12. Nee Mutham ondru koduthal - Pokkiri

Dol dol and vasantha mullai stay the popular numbers, but somehow this song struck me when I heard it for the first time and remains my favorite from the movie.

11. My name is Billa - Billa 2007

Remix whizzkid Yuvan at it again...definitely cannot be termed his best effort till date in remix songs, but still, does enough to keep up the josh. Lyrics are also brilliantly penned by Pa.Vijay. Other songs like vethalaya potendi(another remix) and sevalkodi from the movie are also quite good. But this was the most popular of all the songs in the original version Billa and maintains its position in the remade version also.

10. June Ponaal - Unnale Unnale

Frankly, I did not like this song when i heard the first time. Probably, Harris also has acquired some 'slow poison' touch from his master A.R.Rahman.

9. Unakkul Naane - Pachaikili muthucharam

The violin bit is still the ringtone in many cell phones. Bombay Jayashree and Harris combo works again. Though the movie was a let down by Gautam Menon's standards, the songs weren't.

8. Kaatrin Mozhi - Mozhi

Arguably, the movie of the year, Mozhi has songs with meaningful lyrics, rare combination in today's instrument dominated tamizh music. Kannal paesum pennae, rendered by the ageless voice of SPB was also excellent. But for the power in its lyrics, this song takes the cake.

7. Oh Indha Kadhal - Sathum Podathay

People who had seen my Gtalk status around September 2007 would be having a fair idea of how I used to listen to this song in terms of number of times per half an hour ;). Video, less seen the better. Audio, arumayana song.

6. Vizhiyil - Kireedom

After Oru naal oru kanavu, Sonu Nigam makes a comeback in tamizh cinema and the ever improving G.V.Prakash delivers a wonderful melody.

5. Sahana saaral - Sivaji

Once the cloud of frenzy and hype associated with Thalaivar and Shankar's coming together settled down, the song that still stands tall is this melody rendered with proper pronunciation by Udit Narayan for a change, though I reckon Baleilakka would be featuring in TV channels' countdown.

4. Engeyum eppodhum - Polladhavan

G.V.Prakash is coming out of his uncle's giant shadows. I confused this song to be Yuvan's work. Again, except for SPB's voice, everything in this remix has changed. But the credit for the song's success arguably goes to the unchanged element.

3. Pogadhe - Deepavali

Kadhal vaithu comes close. But idhu enakku romba pudicha song from the movie. In fact, very strange was the way in which I got to know of this song. This was in the favorite videos of some stranger who had visited my profile in orkut. First impression, Yuvan's abaswaramana voice. Further impressions, amazing use of instruments, best voice to portray the melancholy. Final impression, would be there in the top 3 songs by Yuvan so far.

2. Kelaamal - Azhagiya Tamizh Magan

Spoilt for choices here. I can list down all the songs from the movie here. But this was the song which I liked instantly from the album and maintains its status quo.Not for nothing, did I go to theatre 60 days after release,to see,of all the movies,Azhagiya Tamizh Magan? :)

1. Yaaro - Chennai 6000028

Mayajaal varai ponadhu waste-aa pogalai.
Amazing movie, a thorough entertainer. Yuvan Shankar was instrumental in dragging people to theatre to watch what was a movie by relatively newcomers with newcomers. Chinna Kuyil Chitra and Paadum Nila SPB deliver a haunting melody and I have no qualms in keeping it on top of the pile.

Alien Territory - Let me start by saying I'm not alien to this concept of blogging. I've been very consistent in updating my thoughts on soccer(if you can sense the current of sarcasm running underneath). The idea of a blog for writing whatever that comes to my mind has never crossed my mind. In fact, I don't like this concept of maintaining a personal diary. I hardly used my calendar notebook when in school:P. Thus, this whole business of pouring my thoughts is quite new to me and which I believe justifies the blog name to some extent. Even now, whatever I am going to scribble may not have their roots emerging from my CPU aka brain.

This is to all my friends who have been hinting about me having a general blog. I've finally opened one. Consistency and Commitment may be in short supply. However, if there is something that can postpone my sleep by even 10 minutes, I will try my best to write it out, ALOUD.
